Mo Salah, ruled out of Tuesday’s semi-final due to concussion, watched from the sidelines while wearing a t-shirt with the phrase ‘Never give up’ on it as his Liverpool teammates defied the odds to demolish Barcelona at Anfield.
Those odds had suggested that Liverpool would be swept aside by a Barcelona team featuring the world’s best individual talent in Lionel Messi but even without Salah, as well as influential duo Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita, they couldn’t have been more wrong.
Salah’s absence was the most keenly felt, however. The Egyptian has become Liverpool’s chief goalscoring threat since returning to the English game from Roma a couple of seasons ago and unable to influence proceedings on the pitch, he instead opted to do so with his fashion choices.
As the game was unfolding, the sidelined Salah could be seen wearing a shirt saying the words ‘Never give up’ as his side battled to overcome the first leg deficit.
Its spirit was very much heeded by his teammates as they romped home to a sensational 4-0 victory and the Anfield faithful will no doubt be hoping he wears it once again for the this weekend’s deciding day in the razor-thin race to claim the Premier League title.
